The culinary experience at So Gong Dong Tofu House is truly a celebration of bold, vibrant flavors and quality ingredients. Their signature soft tofu soups, crafted with organic, non-GMO tofu, are nothing short of a revelation. Whether you opt for the sumptuous Seafood Soft Tofu Soup bubbling with fresh oysters, shrimp, and clams, the rich and creamy Cheese Soft Tofu Soup melded with tender beef, pork, or chicken and earthy mushrooms, or the delicate but flavorful Crab Soft Tofu Soup, each bowl delivers a warming, deeply satisfying taste that lingers long after your last spoonful. For purists, the Plain Tofu Soup offers a clean, silky canvas that celebrates the purity of tofu itself.
Beyond soups, So Gong Dong shines with its superb stoneware bibimbabs, each plated as a vibrant, hearty mosaic of seasoned vegetables, savory meats, and perfectly fried eggs. The Kimchi Beef Stoneware Bibimbab marries the tangy kick of kimchi with tender beef, while the Seafood Stoneware Bibimbab offers a spicy, briny zest from shrimp, squid, and octopus that ignites the palate. Vegetarians will find delight in offerings like the Vegetarian Bibim Naeng Myun, serving cold noodles in a spicy sauce that’s both refreshing and addictive.
Fans of Korean barbecue and traditional dishes are equally pampered here. Favorites like the crispy golden Seafood Pancake, tender Kalbi (marinated short ribs), and the savory, slightly sweet Bulgogi Pork consistently earn praise for their authentic flavors and generous portions. And no Korean meal is complete without the beloved banchan—endless small, flavorful side dishes that perfectly complement the main courses. Diners rave about the attentive service that ensures these side delights, along with steaming white rice, are refilled generously, making every meal feel abundant and satisfying.
Reviews from patrons highlight not just the incredible food but the overall dining experience. Cai enthuses about the “delicious and spicy” soondubu (soft tofu stew) and the generous unlimited rice and banchan refills that make each visit feel like a feast. Sharmili Roy reflects on the cozy, intimate atmosphere paired with flavorful dishes like the “kimibap” (kimbap) and tofu soup with fish eggs, emphasizing the genuine warmth in both the food and service. Andrew Lee praises the consistent quality and “impeccable” service, noting that while prices lean toward the higher side, the flavors justify every penny—common sentiment echoed by many in the Bay Area. Joshua Yuan appreciates the authentic taste and generous portions, especially highlighting the seafood pancakes and galbi as standout items, along with the convenience of available parking, making it a favorite spot in the South Bay. David Olais shares that even when the parking lot fills up during busy times, the quick service and tasty fare make the wait worthwhile.
Ultimately, So Gong Dong Tofu House is much more than just a Korean restaurant—it’s a culinary haven where the harmony of fresh, high-quality ingredients and traditional recipes awaken your senses and comfort your soul. Whether you’re seeking a hearty bowl of spicy tofu soup, the rich layering of stonepot bibimbab, or simply want to unwind with excellent barbecue and attentive service, this Palo Alto gem delivers a genuinely memorable dining experience that both locals and visitors cherish.
The soondubu is DELICIOUS. Great flavor, spicy, and most importantly, unlimited rice and ban chan refills upon request. The price is a bit steep for soup ($20+) but the quality is worth it, given Bay Area food prices. Their other dishes are yummy too.
Food is really good and spicy, loved the kimibap I don't know how to write properly spelling of that . And the tofu soup with fish eggs so yum.. atmosphere is small but cozy. Service was good. Loved the side dishes
You can't beat the consistency, flavor, and the tasty bonchon side dishes at SGD tofu house. Service is impeccable and very attentive. Maybe a bit pricy but everything is super flavorful.
This place is pretty nice in south bay. There's a parking lot for your cars. It gets busy during peak hours but usually you shouldn't have to wait too long. It seems pretty authentic (coming from a non Korean). Food is good, especially the seafood pancakes and the galbi. Definitely would want more of those. Serving size is pretty large too. Overall good stuff and very solid Korean restaurant!
Dinner for 3 and we enjoyed the food..parking lot was full and service was fast. We will be back and we recommend this place.
Solid place for solid Korean food! Went there during off peak timing (1.30pm) on a weekend and it was pretty full. There are a number of parking spaces but I supposed you may need to park by the roadside during peak hours. When I got there, it was one of two empty slots left. Side dishes were delicious and free flow. Main dishes tasted even better!! We had the chicken bulgogi (they only served dinner size on weekends) and it is huge. Value for money for sure! We also had seafood tofu soup and it tasted really good. Even with the tips, the price point for the food is still very worth it. And if you can’t finish it, remember to ask for packing boxes. Folks are efficient and friendly! They are always checking if we need to top up our side dishes. I am definitely going back there again each time I have cravings!
My go-to local spot for delicious Korean food ever since high school! I’ve tried almost all their main dishes from bibimbap to soondubu to naengmyeon, and they are all absolutely scrumptious! Very generous portions as well, though prices have increased over the years. The banchan is also great and they do refill them upon request without extra charge.
Opting for the combination tofu hot pot which allows you to enjoy both meat and seafood. I believe it was at least a dozen clams included. The tofu is packed, with every spoonful loaded with ingredients. So delicious! And the staff, noticing that the side dishes were running low, proactively replenished them without us having to ask. What a lovely gesture that makes you feel like you're dining in a homey restaurant. I would definitely recommend it for someone craving Korean tofu pot.
